Self-managed instances are run outside of Veritone's cloud infrastructure, and are designed for customers with their own cloud environments or who run network-isolated processing infrastructure. When the instance is created, a set of commands are generated that must be run in a terminal on local servers or in a private cloud to install the aiWARE instance.

[Note] Instance configuration parameters can't be changed after creation, so it's important to choose them carefully.

Steps

  • To start the instance creation wizard, in the left sidebar, click Add New > Add new instance. The Create Instance panel opens to the Basic Info tab.

Basic Info settings

Enter a name, and optionally add a description. When you click Next the Configuration tab opens.

Configuration settings

Hosting Type: Set to Self Managed. When Self Managed is chosen, the aiWARE Infrastructure Type defaults to On Premises. This hosting type is for customers who use either their own cloud environments, or who run network-isolated processing infrastructure.

Instance Type: The only currently supported instance type is:

  • AI Data + AI Processing includes cognitive processing and allows for data persistence, like long-term storage of job results, training of datasets, and engine benchmarking, among other tasks.

aiWARE Version: (Optional) Select a version. The default setting is always the latest development version.

[Tip] Use the latest version unless there is an exceptional business need to use an older version.

Instance Size: Select the size of the instance. The size specifies how many computing resources will be dedicated to the instance, and is based on the distribution of services among the resources. Some services can be grouped together to be run on a node together.

  • Small generates installation commands for all services to be installed on a single node. These instances are designed for testing and/or very small workloads.
  • Medium generates installation commands for four sets of run modes that are typically installed on four nodes.
  • Large generates installation commands for eleven sets of run modes that can be installed individually or in combination with others. These instances are designed for resource-intensive, enterprise-scale deployments.

When you click Next the Organizations tab opens.

Organizations settings

Add Organizations: (Optional) Select any additional Hub organizations that will have access to this instance. By default, the organization in which you are currently working is the owner of the instance, so if you want to specify that a different organization will be the owner, select Set as owner. While only one organization can be the owner, multiple organizations can have view access.

Complete the instance

Click Generate Installation Commands. The Install waiting popup opens.

[Note] The installation commands must be run in the given order.

Do one of the following:

  • If you are ready to start installing aiWARE on your servers, click Show me to be taken to the Installation tab that contains the commands and instructions.
  • If you aren't ready to begin the installation, click Ignore. The generated commands and instructions for installation are always available on the Installation tab of the Instance Detail pane.
