Create a Veritone-managed instance

To create a Veritone-managed instance of aiWARE, specify that the Infrastructure Type will be Veritone-managed, then select a size for the instance. You can optionally add organizations to the instance.

[Warning] None of the Configuration Settings can be changed after the instance is created.

Steps

  • To start the instance creation wizard, in the left sidebar, click Add New > Add new instance. The Create Instance panel opens to the Basic Info tab.

Basic Info settings

Enter a Name, and optionally add a Description. When you click Next the Configuration tab opens.

Configuration settings

Hosting Type: Set to Veritone. Veritone-managed instances are installed in the cloud and are managed by Veritone.

Infrastructure Type:

  • AWS EKS (Elastic Kubernetes Service) is the recommended type. EKS automates the management, scaling, and deployment of containerized applications.
  • AWS (Amazon Web Services) allows customers to take advantage of Veritone's extensive AWS cloud provisioning knowledge.

Region: (Optional) Each Region in AWS is in a separate geographic area and is designed to be isolated from the other Regions.

Availability Zone: (Optional) Availability Zones are isolated locations within each Region in AWS.

aiWARE Version: (Optional) Select a version. The default setting is always the latest development version.

[Tip] Use the latest version unless there is an exceptional business need to use an older version.

Instance Type: The only currently supported instance type is:

  • AI Data + AI Processing includes cognitive processing and allows for data persistence, like long-term storage of job results, training of datasets, and engine benchmarking, among other tasks.

Instance Size: Select the size of the instance. The size specifies how many computing resources will be dedicated to the instance.

  • Small instances are designed for testing and/or very small workloads.
  • Medium instances run on four nodes.
  • Large instances run on eleven nodes and are designed for resource-intensive, enterprise-scale deployments.

When you click Next the Organizations tab opens.

Organizations settings

Add Organizations: (Optional) Select any additional Hub organizations that will have access to this instance. By default, the organization in which you are currently working is the owner of the instance, so if you want to specify that a different organization will be the owner, select Set as owner. While only one organization can be the owner, multiple organizations can have view access.

Complete the instance

Click Create Instance to start the instance creation process. In the background, cloud resources are assigned and spun up. The Status button on the Instance Detail panel displays the instance's progress.

  • Preparing is a brief interim state waiting while the instance infrastructure is being configured.
  • Installing is the state while the hosts are being configured and the aiWARE software is being installed.
  • Active indicates that the instance is up and available.
  • Unhealthy indicates that the services in the aiWARE instance are not responding with "OK."
  • Deactivating only occurs when the instance has been deactivated but the infrastructure is still being released.
  • Deactivated indicates that the infrastructure is released.
  • Deleting indicates that the instance is being deleted in the Hub database.
  • Deleted indicates that the instance has been terminated.
  • Error indicates that the instance has failed to deploy or deactivate.
