Google BigQuery is Google's cloud data warehouse tool. In combination with a GA4 account and property, GBQ offers more data granularity and flexibility for tracking web traffic data.
GBQ is an effective way to build upon an advertiser's already existing GA4 instance to use in Attribute. With only GA4, key Attribute metrics are unavailable. GBQ will restore these analytics items, such as new ad users, location filtering/analytics, and channel filtering/analytics. GBQ is owned and managed by Google and your Google account's associated administrators. Advertisers can delete their GBQ items and remove the connection to Attribute at any time.
GA4 and GBQ differ in the following ways:
- GA4 is a web traffic analytics service owned and managed by Google that allows its users to track and report web data.
- GBQ is a data warehouse owned and managed by Google that can be used as a plugin to other Google tools.
GBQ connection workflow
How it works
- During a secure connection process, advertisers are prompted to create a GBQ project and then connect this to their GA4 items.
- Once the process is complete, Attribute will request web data from your GBQ Project for the assigned campaign dates.
- Attribute then uses this web data correlated to broadcast ad spots to identify key attribution metrics like lift and new ad users.
Advertiser participation
The Admin of your Google Analytics (GA) account and property will receive an email invitation to kick off the connection steps. During this secure process, the Admin is prompted to create a GBQ project to be connected to their GA4 items. This grants read-only permission to their selected website URL(s). This ensures Veritone does not receive access to any other items within your GA instance and cannot make any changes to the account or data within it.
Enabling a billing account to use GBQ
GBQ projects without a billing account will have a required 60 day expiration, wherein after the 60 day period all data will be wiped. To update this project expiration, your Google account must have a billing account enabled.
Google offers all GBQ users free cloud features with a free trial. Most advertisers will likely remain within their free usage tier. However, this is dependent on visits per month, and storage used.
